Canvas Printing, Rugs, Lighting: Easy Ways to Freshen Room Décor
We’re all on a budget. Some are larger than others, but there’s always a limit. Aside from money, redecorations and renovations have other costs: Costs to your time, your comfort, and your sanity. That means that when you start to get that three-year itch to change things up again, you don’t always want to tear it down to the studs and start over. Sometimes you have to think smaller.
When it comes time to think smaller, there’s hope: You don’t need a lot of money or time to have a huge impact on a room that’s in fine shape, but a little tired to your eye. Here are three simple avenues towards making your rooms look completely new without spending a lot of time – or money.
The Walls and Canvas Printing
First up are the walls. Paint is always the cheapest renovation you can make happen – depending on the size of your room, you can usually paint for less than $100 and it can usually be done in a day, but the change can be dramatic. Selecting a new colour that matches your existing furniture and other design aspects is probably the most difficult part of the project.
Canvas printing is also a great option. Less trouble than painting, all it requires are some fresh new images and very little money. Then you just take down your existing wall art and replace with your new selections – total time less than an hour, and surprisingly budget friendly.
The Floors
People sometimes forget the power of the floor, because we don’t spend a lot of time looking down at them when we’re in our rooms. But the floor’s texture and colour has a huge impact on the look and feel of your room. Consider:
- If you currently have a rug, remove it. The room will feel completely different with hardwood or tile exposed.
- Change the rug dramatically in either colour or texture – or both.
- If your floors are old hardwood you’ve covered with a large rug or carpet to hide, think about painting them!
Changing the floor will make your room feel 100% brand new, even if you don’t change anything else.
Lighting
Finally, think about your lighting. There are two aspects of the lighting in your room that can have a dramatic impact on how it’s perceived:
The light itself. Is it from overhead ceiling fixtures? Try adding some floor or table lamps for a more intimate, warm feel. Change the bulbs to something softer and yellower – white light always feels cold and clinical.
The fixtures. Every lamp and fixture in your house can be changed very easily. Always turn off the power at the main before working with wired fixtures, but otherwise it’s very straightforward to change them.
Choosing just one of these strategies will result in an all-new feel for your room. If you decide to go for fresh art on the walls, click here and we’d be happy to share our spectacular image library, or take your own art and transform it into a moment!
