Decorating your home with personalised artworks has never been easier,…
Your Home as Your Wall Art Canvas
The phrase ‘interior design’ brings up a sense of complexity and professionalism that makes many home owners or apartment renters feel like they can’t even rearrange the furniture in their homes without consulting an expensive professional to tell them the ‘right way’ to do things. Even something as simple as coming up with great wall art to decorate a room feels like something that requires a corporate-level report detailing the possibilities and options.
The art on your wall not only doesn’t have to be that well thought-out, it also doesn’t have to be permanent. Changing out the art on your walls on a regular basis is a fun way to keep your home feeling fresh. This also doesn’t have to be expensive, as there are some wonderful options that are free or inexpensive while allowing you to change the look and feel of your room on a regular basis.
The Old Standby: Tape and Paint
One of the easiest and most effective techniques you can use on your walls is a simple application of painter’s tape and paint. Choose some complementary colours, tape out some patterns on the wall to create interesting geometric shapes (using a measuring tape and level to make sure the wall art you end up with is at the right height and is nice and level). Then, fill in your shapes using the paint. This can be as complex or simple as you like – and if it doesn’t turn out well, or you get tired of it after a while, prime and paint over it! Here’s a great example of how paint and tape can be used effectively as wall decoration.
Cheap Canvas Prints
We’d be remiss if we didn’t suggest canvas prints for your rooms. Canvas art (or metal or acrylic glass) is a cheap and dramatic way to change the way your room looks and feels for very little money. Great pieces of canvas art can be rotated through the room as your mood changes, or with the seasons – or new ones can be ordered as the whim takes you. For something so affordable, canvas wall art packs quite a punch.
Generate Great Artistic Creations from Kids
With some blackboard paint and a few children running amok, you can decorate a room in no time using coloured chalk – the ultimate changeable decoration, as it can be wiped away each day and redecorated – a fun activity that combines decorating your room with keeping the kids busy and creatively occupied during those school holidays or long weekends!
Bonus: If the chalkboard paint is magnetised (ask at the paint store) you can also decorate using regular refrigerator magnets or anything that’s also been magnetised, which can be a fun way of adding some metallic lustre to your walls which can be re-arranged at will. In fact, re-arranging the art wall can become an unexpectedly enjoyable party activity for your more adult guests!
Decoration and design never has to be expensive or difficult. In fact, the more fun you have with your home design, the better it will turn out and the more impact it will have, no matter how much you spend on the project.
